Can you say yes to these questions?

Is your “stuff” consolidated or spread out? question-mark-face

I find many folks have their ‘stuff’ spread around. Some may be in safe deposit boxes, other data may be in a desk at home, or a desk at work.  We likely don’ t think about our survivors and what would happen if we didn’t make it home one night.

Would they know where to look for everything?  Would they know who to call?

Preferred Financial Strategies offers a secure client portal that allows for uploading copies of all important documents. This can be accessed from anywhere at any time. We also can provide a detailed organizer for clients so they can list (in pencil) where documents are. It is important to include bank account numbers, internet websites including your passwords, professional contacts and so on. No doubt, you may know of someone who died without their ‘stuff’ in order. It can be a nightmare, don’t let that happen to your loved ones.

Do you know why you need an estate planning attorney?

Here in North Carolina, the state has a pre-determined will for you if you die intestate. Intestate means without a will. Did you know that if you have minor children, your surviving spouse will have to petition to be named guardian for these children? Did you know that the surviving spouse will have to file a financial accounting with the court every year for each child? Did you know that at age 18 the child can sue for a part of the remaining estate? What about accidents?  A Durable power of attorney is necessary for someone to do business as if they were you.  This doesn’t happen automatically.
The documents referenced in the question are all important.  Leave one out, and your loved ones will have a very hard and trying time taking care of you and your business!

Being able to answer yes to these questions is a very important Financial Strategy For Life!
