I hate JUNK mail and Solicitation calls! Don’t you? They are so intrusive and annoying!
Recently we celebrated National Consumer Protection Week. In addition to identity theft we are all exposed to the annoying solicitations coming by mail, email and phone. Even our cell phones are spammed with calls now. What can we do to protect ourselves from these unwanted contacts?
Take charge consumer! Here are some phone numbers to go along with the web site references in the attached article.

Remove your name from national mailing and emailing lists and most telemarketing lists. The Direct Marketing Association. Register online: dmachoice.org
Remove me from your list! 888-567-8688
This number removes your name from marketing lists prepared by the three national consumer reporting agencies – Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. Register online: optoutprescreen.com
Be sure they have indicated that you want to opt out of allowing them to share your financial information with other organizations. This is something we do for our clients, but it isn’t an automatic practice in the industry.
By limiting the personal information available to others we are less likely to be victims of identity theft. You may want to consider removing your name from a public phone book or reverse directory as well.
Less contact can mean less opportunity for theft of your information. That is a smart financial strategy for life!
